Car keeps stalling when i slow down?

my 97 nissan altima just starting sputtering and jerking, then everytime i stop it completely stalls out. i just got a new alternator. my check engine light is on because of my knock sensor and the 4th cylinder misfire.. please help i know nothing about cars.|||bring it to the shop!!!|||It could be fouled plugs, water in the gas ,an intake or vacuum leak.....or real bad ---head gasket or intake gasket--is it leaking or using antifreeze??if so suspect the last two things--try some fuel injection cleaner to start ,some that takes the water out of the gas at the same time...hope it's a minor problem--good luck............SMILE|||4th cylinder misfire usually means your car needs a tuneup. That would also explain the poor drivability.|||It's getting old, it's probably engine related but it can also be a fuel filter. A common symptom of fuel filter problem is odd acceleration and deceleration, sometimes it won't accelerate when you hit the pedal etc.

Sorry but it's just too hard to tell what EXACTLY is the problem without seeing it. If you have a friend mechanic, ask him (or her) rather than go to mechanics who will steal your money (especially women, I guess you're one) because they know you know nothing of cars. Ask like a friend.|||i had the same problem the mechanic changed my fule pump and my timming was off so u should have it checked there are some shops who will tell u whats wrong with ur car for free hoping u will go to them to fix it but u can get a michanic to check it for u too and probably cheeper than a shop
